Halloween. It’s a double-edged sword. On one hand, free candy. On the other (more dominant) hand, the following day – without fail – I can confidently place bets that my boys will be complete and utter assholes. Maybe it’s the (GMO) sugar crash, maybe it’s the late-bedtime exhaustion, maybe it’s a combination of the two. Regardless, I routinely spend most of November 1st each and every year like this:
When I’m not muttering “What the f***” under my breath in total bewilderment or hiding in my closet, I’m breaking up fights or talking one of them through an emotional meltdown of epic proportions…or patching up drywall. I call it the Halloween Hangover, and it. is. ugly. And how do you cure a hangover? A little hair o’ the dog that bit ya…with a few gut-friendly tweaks.
Behold: the Orange Dreamsicle smoothie. A naturally sweet little (fruit) sugar tonic packed with fresh (Vitamin C-loaded) oranges, bananas (bringin’ the potassium), creamy cashew milk (for protein) and a healthy dose of (probiotic powerhouse) kefir.
