Smoothie lovers, rejoice! There exists a blended breakfast beverage that shall satiate even the fiercest of hot-breakfast cravings – thy name is warm smoothie. Have you heard of this yet?? It’s now a thing, and I. am. digging it.
As a foodie, I pride myself on keeping up with the latest and greatest in all things edible, but catching wind of this latest smoothie trend was a particularly exciting discovery for me. It makes total sense (in fact, it troubles me that it never occurred to me before): who wants to sip on an ice-cold smoothie in the dead of winter?? Not I. But I do still swoon for that whole thick, delicious, nutritious smoothie package, even on the iciest of mornings, yearning for warmer days ahead.
But now with warm smoothies in my arsenal, I yearn no longer. I can have my smoothie and drink it too, be it winter, spring, summer or fall. The secret lies in one simple extra step: heat the liquid before you blend. That’s it. Make sure you use fresh (or thawed) fruit rather than frozen, and you’ve got yourself a warm smoothie, homeslice! This one is a particular favorite: a smoothied spin on the seasonal classic hot chocolate. Warm and frothy and cocoa-kissed, it’s the ultimate warm brekkie on-the-go.
