I always look forward to a little somethin’ somethin’ in the morning after I’ve dropped the boys at school. Something yummy I can sip on as I gaze out the window basking in the glow of sweet silence. Sometimes it’s hot tea, sometimes it’s cold brew, but perhaps the best of those mornings is a matcha morning.
I have alllllllways been a big tea girl. Not a fan of traditionally brewed coffee – my stomach feels gross anytime I try it, and it just makes me feel weird and jittery. And it wasn’t until a few months ago that I discovered and subsequently fell in love with cold brew. So for the bulk of my 37 years in existence, I’ve tried pretty much every tea known to man. And matcha is my fave.
Bonus points for matcha: while it does contain more caffeine than your average cup of tea, it also contains an amino acid called L-Theanine, which slows the release of said caffeine and has a calming effect, to boot. That means you won’t get that jittery feeling you might get from coffee, while still benefiting from a little morning pick-me-up! Also, because you’re drinking the entire ground-up tea leaf, you’re gettin’ a big ol’ flood of antioxidants. Score. Also, it’s pretty, y’all. Need I say more??
Some people complain that matcha tastes like dog s**t covered in grass. I can understand this minor concern if you’re using just any old cheap matcha. The range of flavors can swing anywhere from “tastes like dirt” to “next-level transcendence”, but I assure you, if you’re using Chalait brand matcha, you’ll be one happy camper.
